camp blogaway

Filed under: My Travels — Kristen :) @ 4:12 pm

aaaaaah, thank goodness it’s FRIDAY! (Imagine me jumping in the air and smiling from ear to ear)  This week has certainly been all jumbled and all over the place, but I made it!  I’d like to think that Friday is the start of a relaxing and do-nothing kind of weekend, but oh it’s not and I don’t think I’ve slept in past 5:30am for the past 2 weeks!  But you gotta do what you gotta do.  Both Chris and I have our parents in town as well, so we want to spend as much time as we can.  This weekend is already pretty packed, read on for some more info on my trip to Camp Blogaway on Saturday!

I’m really excited to be attending Camp Blogaway thanks to the sponsorship from the National Onion Association.  We’ll be learning all kinds of neat blogging topics and I’m excited to meet others in the food blog community!

Topics will include:

The Cookbook Process – Kristine Kidd Food Editor at Bon Appetit magazine.  For 20 years, she is now finalizing her upcoming Williams-Sonoma cookbook, Weeknights: Fresh and Fast AND is the spokesperson for the culinary tome, Cooking at Home, which is due out this fall, and includes many of her recipes. Kristine’s other cookbooks are: Cookies and Biscotti, Gifts from the Kitchen, Risotto, Thanksgiving, and After Dinner. She has been a cookbook judge for the IACP Julia Child Cookbook Awards. What’s it take to get a cookbook out?

Elevator Pitch Rapid-Fire – learn to articulate what your blog is all about in seconds! Every blogger will be introduced, and your home page blasted on our screen for all to see. Get to know fellow bloggers right from the start of the day.

FOCUS! Food Photography Lighting – how are your food pix coming? This day, we will focus on one photography element — lighting! May Camp session presenter, Danny of Food Bloggers Unite returns with scores of insights to perfect your photo lighting skills  (I’m looking forward to this one!)

How Bloggers Score Great Gigs – Erika from In Erika’s Kitchen and L.A. Cooking Examiner, Rachael of La Fuji Mama and Jenny of Picky Palate have first-hand insights about some pretty darn cool activities they’ve enjoyed because they are bloggers. What’s out there for you? Here’s your chance to be in-the-know.

Just added: Brona Cosgrave, VP of Lewis & Neale, NYC based nationally recognized food PR agency will present agencies’ perspective. Brona works directly with food bloggers on behalf of clients including Avocados from Mexico, US Highbush Blueberry Council, Meyer Lemons, North Carolina Sweet Potatoes, Proscuitto di Parma, Quebec Maple Syrup and Rioja wines.

Power of Email Marketing / Get Your Newsletter Going and Growing Kelly from Constant Contact walks you through the How’s and Why’s of making your newsletter ROCK (and, on a shoestring!).

Viking Range Showrooms — dreaming of a Man Cave (aka outdoor kitchen)? What’s awesome for your home remodel? Bring cameras and wish list to learn from the Viking folks. You may never leave.

My mom and I will be making the drive there and back the same day so we’ll be up early!

It should be a lot of fun and I look forward to sharing some great tips.

Sunday I’m going to get in at least 75-85 miles *fingers crossed* since the following weekend I’ll be traveling in a van for 508 miles at the Furnace Creek 508 with my friend Jen’s Crew. (Check out Jen’s guest post)  Yes, it is a 508 mile bike race in about 2 days, that will be intense!!  I’m excited to root her on and see sports nutrition at its finest.

Then the next weekend is Viva!!!  aaaah!  The century option is already sold out and there should be about 1,600 cyclists there which will be freakin’ awesome.

Hope you all have a wonderful weekend!!  Thanks for checking back, I’m ready for some blogging bootcamp 🙂

What do you have going on this weekend?
